PS4 has sold over 30 million units
It's certainly the biggest console around right now and those figures also see it become the fastest selling PlayStation console in history. Needless to say, Sony is very happy about the news:
"The rapid expansion of the PS4 platform further reinforces the foundation of delivering compelling entertainment experiences. Customers can choose from multiple offerings available on this most favored platform that ranges from games on discs or through digital download to a variety of services available on PlayStation Network, including PlayStation Plus membership service, apps for streaming video, music and TV content. The 30.2 million PS4 owners around the world are spending more time playing games and enjoying entertainment content as the company further enriches content and services."
The PS4 launched with the advantage of being €100 cheaper than the Xbox One back in November 2013, as well as a release strategy which focussed on just how simple the system was to use, up to and including exchanging games. As Microsoft faltered, Sony landed their biggest launch yet, quickly becoming the defacto next generation console. And these strong sales continue, even in the midst of a holiday season which sees no major gaming exclusives for the console. The next huge release comes in 2016 with Uncharted 4.
