EA want an open world action game

EA makes a lot of games but there's one part of the market they've yet to tap - the open world action game. Now it seems that's the plan for the future.
EA want an open world action game

EA's CFO Blake Jorgensen has said that the company wants to build their own answer to the Grand Theft Auto and Assassin's Creed:

"We've never really operated in the largest genre of gaming, and that's the action genre. That's the Assassin's Creed-style games; more open-world, more single-play versus multiplayer. It's not been an area that we've operated in. We recently hired Jade Raymond, who was behind the Assassin's Creed franchise for Ubisoft and she will be building an action genre for us through a studio we're building out in Montreal right now. So a lot of excitement around the action genre."

Including Redmond, who worked at Ubisoft for several years as the producer of the first two Assassin's Creed games and also on Watch Dogs, seems like a good first step. She'll be in charge of making sure that the teams have what they need to produce the best game possible, and right now she's involved with a Star Wars game that's being made by Visceral - the folks behind Dead Space.

That title will also have input from Amy Hennig - previously the director and writer for the Uncharted series at Naughty Dog. That's a lot of talent already in the mix for Star Wars and whatever projects are yet to come from EA in this space.
