Star Wars Battlefront could be getting a sequel

Star Wars Battlefront is arriving on consoles and PC from the 17th of November and it's going to be a huge title for EA and DICE with a new feature film also due in cinemas in a few short weeks.

It also sounds like it might be the first of a new series of games based in this galaxy far, far away. EA's CFO Blake Jorgensen has said that the company has just kicked off a 10 year licensing deal with Disney which will see them working on titles in the Star Wars universe for some time yet.

"We struck a licensing deal with Disney a few years back that's almost ten years in length. The game that comes out tomorrow, Star Wars Battlefront, is a traditional first-person style shooter game. Our goal is to make future Battlefront games as well as other style games around the Star Wars franchise, both on mobile as well as console and PC. It's a huge opportunity for us."

Sounds ambitious, and the wheels are already in motion on future Star Wars titles. Visceral Games (who made Dead Space) are currently getting to work on a Star Wars game with former Uncharted director and writer Amy Hennig.

That's likely to just be the start and its also refreshing to hear that EA doesn't intend to do direct movie tie-in games, probably because they're always awful. Instead they'll work closely with Disney and Lucasfilm to ensure that the experience they create together will expand on this universe in interesting ways.

Star Wars Battlefront is out this week on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
