Robin Williams voice won't be in more Aladdin films

Robin Williams left behind a massive legacy when he sadly passed away in 2014 but few are more iconic than his turn in Disney’s Aladdin in 1991.

The film came at a time when the house of Mouse was churning out one classic after another and Williams was perfectly cast as the fast talking genie who always has a quip on his way to helping the young man of the title realise his dreams.

And it turns out that he had plenty to say in the recording booth as well, with so many jokes and alternative lines that there would easily be enough to put together another star turn for the actor. But that’s not going to happen.

According to the New York Post the star has made it clear in his will that audio recordings from these sessions can’t be used until 25 years after his death.

This will put a halt to plays for Aladdin 4 using the captured performance of the actor, which would have no doubt been very traumatic for his surviving wife and children. It also protects them from having to pay penalties for earnings after his death.

A Disney executive had this to say: "When he was on form, the hyperactive motormouth we love from ‘Good Morning Vietnam’ and ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ was making 30 jokes a minute. Now, because he insisted on a final say on such material, [the jokes] will remain in the vaults.”

Which is as it should be.
