The Punisher could replace Iron Fist TV show
After the success of Daredevil earlier in 2015, it's full steam ahead for the next series Jessica Jones and onwards to Luke Cage getting his own 13 episode run. That's all world building for what comes next - a Defenders of New York mini series mashup which will up the scale and maybe even draw comparisons with the big screen Marvel universe stories.
That's all to come, but right now we're hearing rumours of some changes in the lineup. The internet is whispering that Iron Fist could be out, with The Punisher getting his own TV series in 2017 or thereabouts.
Iron Fist is a martial arts-weilding character with supernaturally charged hands - so definitely higher on the superhero scale than someone like Daredevil. He's not an especially popular character in the Marvelverse, so bringing Punisher in for his own show would make a certain amount of sense. Iron Fist could work better in the Luke Cage series as the pair have a history of working together.
Rumour has it part of the reason we could be seeing a Punisher series is because Netflix has been really happy with Jon Bernthal's performance as the character, where he's currently making trouble for Daredevil in season 2 of that show. It's pretty great casting, and adds a confirmed star to a project which isn't even in the writing stages yet, while also retaining him (presumably) for the larger Defenders series.
Right now it sounds like a good idea, and we're mostly hoping that the upcoming Jessica Jones will manage to keep the quality high.
