The Queen of Ireland star has only watched it once
It’s a remarkable film, not only because Panti is a great central character but also because of the series of events which led from her Noble Call to the momentous moment when the Irish people voted to make gay marriage equal in the eyes of the law.
It’s an often raw and revealing film which was shot over five years by Conor Horgan, and it’s also very funny. When we got to catch up with O’Neill and Horgan recently, we asked what it was like to watch with an audience and the star revealed he’s only watched it once and he might never see it again:
"No, I’ve only watched it once. I watched a final rough cut... I watched it totally alone on purpose. It’s an awkward thing to be sitting there watching something like that and there’s other people looking at your watching it it becomes slightly weird. So no I watched it at home on my laptop and I haven’t seen it since."
It must be very strange to see something so personal play out in front of you, even with friends and loved ones but especially in a room full of strangers on a gigantic screen. For everyone else though its an incredibly entertaining film, with an important message that doesn’t feel pandering.
