The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is a massive game and you can, more or less, do whatever you want within its borders. And that includes exploiting the fixed systems of the world to make a shedload of cash and basically break the in game markets.

Which is exactly what many people did by mining cow hides for profit or looting pearls from oysters over and over again. Some of these issues were patched by CD Project RED but most were just left for the players. But in typical fashion the developers have a surprise for those who thought they'd gotten away with it.
