A lot of people played Star Wars Battlefront - no voice chat planned

Star Wars Battlefront is just coming off a major open beta and developers DICE and EA has spoken out about the experience.
A lot of people played Star Wars Battlefront - no voice chat planned

The main news is that in just a few short days the beta managed to log 9 million individual users. That's a lot of people who wanted to get their blasters ready and play around on Hoth as giant AT AT walkers stomped around and TIE Fighters tried not to crash. And it's a testament to the tech of the game that the servers (mostly) managed to hold under that kind of stress.

It helps that the beta was open, free and available on all three major platforms - Xbox One, PS4 and PC - and that the game modes cycled quickly to give everyone a taste of the action. This doesn't necessarily mean all of these people will buy into the full game, many would just have been curious and wanted some multiplayer action for the weekend. Though the reaction to the gameplay has mostly been positive.

One thing gamers are less positive about is the way voice chat is being handled in Battlefront. There's no dedicated chat functionality in the game itself, so you won't be able to just talk and be heard by your entire team. Instead Xbox One and PS4 players will have to use the systems party chat feature with the people they are connected to.

On PC, it's a bit more complicated as you'll have to load some external software and connect to your pals in there. That's something which PC gamers are likely to have set up to some level already, but it's strange that no kind of communication tool will be featured in the game. Instead you'll have to make sure you're connected to the people in your party ahead of time and task switch back to the game in order to make sure you're all on the same page when it comes to tackling that hulking walker.

Another issue is that you won't be able to chat to people who you aren't friends with on some other platform, which is a problem when your team could potentially be made up of 20 individuals. The bottom line is this - if you're planning on chatting during Star Wars Battlefront, get connected to your pals before you start the game.

Star Wars Battlefront is out on PS4, Xbox One and PC on the 17th of November 2015.
