While the news about the Volkswagen clean diesel scandal only broke weeks ago, there are already plans for a movie.
Leonardo DiCaprio is making a film about Volkswagen scandal

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson, under their Appian Way production banner, have signed up to produce Paramount's film, according to Variety.

The movie is based on Jack Ewing’s upcoming book, which is set to cover the scandal. If you missed the news, Volkswagen was found to cheat emissions tests for their "clean diesel" cars. It used illegal software in their clean diesel cars that would turn on the emissions control when a car was being tested for fuel emissions.

This control was switched off under normal driving conditions, resulting in 40 times more pollution than allowed by law.

Ewing’s pitch was picked up by publishers Norton for a a reported six figure sum. The book doesn’t exist yet, so clearly no screenplay does either. The movie based on the scandal is some way off yet.

DiCaprio’s producing credits include “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Runner Runner” and “Out of the Furnace.” He will next appear on screen in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s drama “The Revenant.”
