Bono's daughter could be Marian in new Robin Hood
So there's a new Robin Hood reboot on the way. This one is called Robin Hood: Origins and is said to do for the arrow-firing fellow what Batman Begins did for the Dark Knight. Which means it will be really dark and gritty and no one will smile. Not once. Ever.
The film has Kingsman's Taron Egerton in the lead role of Robin, who comes back from the Crusades to find his home has gone all Gotham. He dons some tights and takes to the forest for his own brand of justice. Expect slow motion arrow shots and mud-filled action that straddles that PG-13 line.
Deadline is reporting that the film is currently looking to cast its female lead, and they've got a few potential starlets in mind, including Eve Hewson. In case you don't know, the 24 year old Dublin born actress is also the daughter of U2 frontman Bono. So that must come up in conversation a lot. She's been working away in recent years, appearing in This Must Be the Place and giving a decent performance in Steven Soderbergh's period drama The Knick. She's also got Spielberg's Bridge of Spies on the way.
That's a decent CV for such a young person, but she's got competition for the Robin Hood role, which we're going to go ahead and assume will be the part of Maid Marian. Lucy Fry, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Gaite Jansen are also in the running for the major picture, which is one of a number of Hood productions that are currently in the works in Hollywood. It's funny how that always happens.
Quite apart from the fact that the title fills us with dread, this doesn't sound like the worst of those project. Egerton is a likeable lead with some action heritage and director Otto Bathurst has a lot of TV experience on Black Mirror, Peaky Blinders and Hustle. The script comes from Joby Harold who also penned Guy Ritchie's King Arthur film, so he's worked in the same myth/period place before.
