The Revenant has a pulse pounding new trailer. You should watch it now.

From the director of Birdman, it’s the story of real life hunter Hugh Glass, played here by a ferocious Leonardo DiCaprio, who survived an improbably series of unfortunate events on the trail of revenge.

This looks like a totally unique experience, almost like someone took a GoPro camera back to the really wild west of the early 1800s and watched as the action unfolded. The mud and blood and grit practically flies off the screen as the grisly events unfold, with long takes and wide angles showing off the isolated wastes.

Maybe those CG moments with the bear and horse don’t look entirely perfect, but there’s still time to finish them as the film nears its release date.

The Revenant stars DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter and Lukas Haas and is directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, who also co-wrote the script with Mark L. Smith, based on the book of the same name by Michael Punke.

See it in cinemas in January 2016. An Oscar for DiCaprio? Maybe!
