VIDEO The Big Short trailer - an insane but true story

Not so many years ago, the world financial markets suffered their biggest crash in decades as the global housing crisis reached its peak. Surely someone could have predicted this? Well yes. Yes, they did...

That's part of the subject of Michael Lewis' 2010 book The Big Short which deals with the build up to the crash through the eyes of some of the key players involved. Specifically it deals with those who bet against the powers that be and actually came out on top when the rest of the world was thrown into turmoil. It's a ridiculous true story, and now its a major movie directed by Adam McKay - who also made Anchorman.

Here's the first trailer showing off the all star cast including Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell.

With the subject matter it almost has to be framed as something of a comedy, and this cast together with McKay are the right people for that job. The film itself looks like it has an entertaining bent but will also delve into the murky dealings which led to the collapse.

The Big Short hits cinemas in the US on teh 25th of December 2015, and in Ireland and the UK in January 2016.
