The Incredibles 2's release overtakes Cars 3
In an interview with Collider, Bird revealed that the two films’ release plans have changed. He said, “In terms of the release date, we were originally—Incredibles was supposed to happen after Cars, and our wheels just happened to click a little earlier so they moved us up.”
Bird also revealed that he has a story arc in place, is about three-quarters of the way through the first pass of the script, and that they’ve even started storyboarding parts of it.
The Incredibles 2 will continue to focus on the characters and the relationships between them. Bird explained, “what’s changed is there were only two other superhero franchises at the time Incredibles came out. One of them was X-Men and the other was Spider-Man, and now there are 400 billion of them and there’s a new superhero movie every two weeks. What you don’t want to do is trot over the same turf in the same way everyone else is.”
While they may be storyboarding elements of the script, things are subject to change. Just look at the storyboard concept of the introduction of Syndrome in The Incredibles, for example, which starts at 29:14.
The Incredibles 2 doesn’t have a concrete release date just yet. All we know for now is that its planned release is now before Cars 3.
