The Sixth Sense saw writer/director M Night Shyamalan become a household name overnight, and he followed it up with some creepy and atmospheric films like Unbreakable, Signs and The Village. Then things went a bit off the rails.

While recent efforts like Avatar and After Earth have been particularly unwatchable, 2008s The Happening was notable in its own way - mostly for having a plot that made no sense, terrible performances and scares which were too preposterous to take seriously. It was also bizarrely gory, which was a real change for the director.
