There might be a Super Mario Galaxy 3
He's one of the most acclaimed video game creators around, with his hand in everything from Donkey Kong to Super Mario Bros., Zelda, Star Fox and more. And he's been chatting to Eurogamer about many things, including the possibility of a new Mario Galaxy game.
"[its] always in discussion, but even with Mario 64 there was a lot of feedback about motion sickness with the 3D or maybe us making it too difficult." The result was that Nintendo has focussed on 2D games for the most part since, which is what the players seem to want when it comes to clasically styled platform titles.
It's all about accessibility, and making their games inviting for just about anyone: "Going back to our roots and making New Super Mario Bros., anyone can play that, so that's why we went back."
Mario Galaxy is more of a free roaming 3D game and received great reviews on release but the sales figures show it isn't as popular as the classic 2D style releases - the Mario Galaxy series to date has sold less than half of New super Mario Bros Wii on its own.
But Miyamoto says there may still be hope, it just might take awhile. He's suggesting that it might take the release of newer hardware before the 3D titles are back on the cards, partly because the improved tech will allow them to do even more interesting things with the games. And it's also a matter of development time - it takes years to perfect a game, suggesting Mario Galaxy 3 isn't even in the works yet.
