The new game also managed to break sales records for the longest-running action series, selling 37 percent more copies than 2001’s Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. We don’t have exact figures but so far it’s the third biggest launch of the year behind Batman Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3. A report direct from Konami suggested three million copies had been sold as of Sunday the 6th of September, which is a good start but there’s a long way to go to make up the game’s possible $80 million production budget.

It was certainly enough to beat the other new major game Mad Max to the top spot. We actually have no idea why Warner Bros thought it was a good idea to release their open world driving title at the same time as one of the most anticipated titles of the current generation.
