New Philips TV has a projector on the back

Remember AmbiLight? Those Philips TVs which included lights at the edge of the screen that splashed colors around to give the picture some presence in your room? Well the tech is back, and this time its called AmbiLux.

New Philips TV has a projector on the back

At IFA 2015, Philips showed off their new AmbiLux TV. It featured a 65 inch panel at 4K UltraHD resolution (which is the standard now, alarmingly), integrated speakers and the fancy stuff which comes with Android TV. There’s internal storage, plus a remote control with a keyboard and a microphone for Google Now.

So what about the AmbiLux? Well instead of using basic lights like in the first iteration of the tech, Philips has now included ten tiny LED projectors on the back of the TV. That basically turns the wall behind the unit into an extension of the screen, adding to the overall immersion of whatever you’re watching.

It looks pretty cool, especially with this kind of content, and the lights can also be made to interact with any music you have playing for a light show. The smart TV can also dim your Philips hue lightbulbs, making sure you’ve got the proper mood for whatever you’re watching.

The Philips AmbiLux 65 inch TV is set for release in October 2015.
