Huawei at IFA 2015 - Watch and Mate S
One of the bigger announcements was the new Mate S handset. It's a 5.5 inch device with a metal body and a great-looking design. The screen is full HD, and there's a rear camera at 13 megapixels. Surprisingly, Huawei CEO Richard Wu spent a good amount of time directly comparing the Mate S with Apple's iPhone 6 Plus, even holding both of them on stage. The Mate S has a slimmer bezel and charges twice as fast as Apple's handset, at least according to reports.
The rear fingerprint sensor has seen major improvements and can now be used as an input, letting you swipe through photos with a rear touch for example or snap a selfie with the 8MP front-facing lens. It's coming out in September with pricing starting at €649.
Another new device was the Huawei Watch, which we've caught glimpses of before. It's a circular-screened wearable with a 1.4 inch AMOLED display and it looks very stylish indeed, especially the rose-gold plated version. The screen is of a decent resolution (400 x 400) and the Watch comes with an integrated heart rate monitor which Huawei says is the fastest around.
There's no killer Android Wear smartwatch just yet so maybe there's room for Huawei to capture the market with their own Watch. The best news is that it will be available on the 17th of September, with pricing starting at around €350.
More from IFA as we get it.
