VIDEO Concussion trailer - Will Smith does acting face
The film is based on a 2009 GQ article by Jeanne Marie Laskas called Game Brain which focussed on how these kinds of brain injuries were effecting the long term health of American Football players. Smith plays Bennet Omalu - a real an actual neuropathologist who discovered some new information while doing the autopsy on the brain of footballer Mike Webster. And he wanted to tell the world about it.
Naturally things weren't so simple, especially when the behemoth of the NFL got involved and started to systematically close down every avenue available to Omalu before he could get the word out. It's a fascinating subject, even for non sports fans, and you can read the article here.
That doesn't necessarily mean we need a movie about it and sometimes having a star like Smith attached can make the subject matter fade into the background. Early reports are he gives a transformative performence which would be quite the feat given how famous the man is. With a December release in the states, you can bet this one is looking for Oscar glory.
