Apple is already second in the wearable war
Information from the International Data Corporation gives us an idea of how well the Apple Watch is performing and the short answer is - very well.
Less than six months after release, Apple is the second most popular wearable manufacturer with 3.6 million units sold.
That’s 0.8 million behind Fitbit at 4.4 million - a company which has been releasing wearable tech for at least three years.
That’s a hugely impressive debut for Apple, and another example of how they can manage to dominate the market with new-to-market products.
It’s all the more significant when you consider that they only make a single wearable, the Apple Watch, though the number of configurations does mean that it appeals to different sectors of the market.
And mostly those with a lot of money.
The Watch is also tied to a single eco-system, limiting its potential audience by only working with iPhones.
And still the company is within striking distance of its nearest rival in the market.
The rest of the pack was made up by Chinese company Xiaomi, Garmin and Samsung - with a growth in wearables of over 200 percent compared to 2014.
Let’s hope the Apple Watch officially releases in Ireland soon.
