Man of Steel 2 may not happen for a long time

Man of Steel was big and brash and made a lot of money - pretty much launching the new slate of DC Comic-fuelled movies which will see 10 films released over the next five years.

But that doesn’t mean DC and Warner Bros are keen to give the big man himself another standalone feature.

There’s no Man of Steel 2 yet on the release list, though rumours have been circulating that Mad Max Fury Road helmer George Miller was in the frame to direct it.

Now it seems that may not be true. According to new information, Man of Steel 2 is ’permanently on hold’ at Warners.

The info comes from Den of Geek and there’s no further explanation. This could mean that there are no plans to give him another standalone flick, turning Supes into something like the Hulk of the DC universe, or that it’s just much further down the line.

This news also suggests that Miller is still in the running for a gig but that it might be another property - sources are even saying that he can pick and choose whichever superhero he wants, which isn’t a surprise off the back of the stupendous Fury Road.

Bear in mind - Warner doesn’t have a release date for any of the three rumoured Batman movies which may or may not be directed by Ben Affleck so these features and release dates can certainly shift around.

But you have to wonder what kind of contract players like Affleck and Henry Cavill have agreed to if they’re potentially going to be pootling around in supersuits more than five years from now.

One thing is certain - 2016 is going to be a very important year for the DC slate. The reaction to Batman v Superman will likely determine much of the future of this interwoven franchise while Suicide Squad will have to perform massively to give audiences condifence in the future of these heroes and villains.

Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice is set for March 2016, Suicide Squad follows in August.
