Those fitness trackers that many people depend on to keep an eye on their level of activity may not be as accurate as hoped, according to a recent study.

Before you pat yourself on the back for the level of activity recorded by your fitness tracker, you may want to take these metrics with a pinch of salt. Kinesiologists at Iowa State University tested a selection of fitness trackers with a few different daily activities.

The Fitbit Flex, Nike+ FuelBand SE, Jawbone UP 24 and Misfit Shine, as well as two monitors normally used in research - the BodyMedia Core and Actigraph GT3X+ were put through their paces.
