Irish horror film incoming from the makers of Sinister and Insidious
Irish director Ciaran Foy got enough attention for his 2012 feature Citadel to pick up a gig at the helm of new horror film Sinister 2 - from the team behind the Paranormal Activity and Insidious series. Now he's bringing that success home with The Shee.
It's a new horror film set in Ireland in the 1960's and focussing on a troubled young woman who must confront her violent and tragic past when she travels to a remote island. Sounds like a positively atmospheric set up, with an isolated location which can make the most of our often stunning isle.
Foy will write the script and direct the film and he's also on board as one of the producers via his production company Shadow Aspect. And he's got some good company, with none other than Jason Blum as one of the other producers. He's been behind pratically every horror hit you can think of in recent years, and also had a hand in Oscar winners like Whiplash. Joining them is Alan Maher, the CEO of Roads Entertainment - a flourishing Irish film production company.
"I am delighted to continue my successful working relationship with Ciarán, which began more than a decade ago, and to collaborate with Blumhouse, the best genre producers in the world," said Maher. "The Shee will be a thrilling and unique experience that will further establish Ciarán as one of the brightest talents in the industry."
With Sinister 2 only just hitting cinemas it's probably going to be awhile before we see The Shee in cinemas but it's great to have major production companies coming here for their genre films.
