VIDEO The Minority Report tv series looks cool!
TV is in a great place right now, with budgets rising, better special effects and great storylines being pushed everywhere from cable to network channels. For once, that means we're not too scared of a reboot of a classic movie coming to the small screen.
Tom Cruise's sci-fi action flick Minority Report is the latest to make the transition, with the 2002 blockbuster being remade for TV by Fox. The series kicks off 10 years after the film when the whole pre-cog system has been abandoned. A cop ends up working with one of the original three pre-cogs (the people who lay in that water bath thing) to try to solve a series of murders.
Here's a first look at the show.
Last time we got a glimpse at Minority Report it was straight off the back of a very expensive pilot so it's good to see some new footage here which suggests the rest of the season will have a similar level of quality. We love the look of the future here - a place that's not too alien but projects some of our current tech into a more lurid version - like the display ads which were so effective in the original movie.
The budget looks decent enough to support a major sci-fi show and the cast we've seen so far isn't throwing any red flags. One change from the previous version is that actor Stark Sands was originally set to play both male pre-cogs. The second brother has been left out of this promo- likely because the search for him is a major plot point in season one - and he'll now be played by Nick Zano. Because all that split screen work would have been a royal pain.
So far it's looking good for the Minority Report TV show. Naturally that also comes with a massive caveat - large scale sci-fi series are so often cancelled. They're expensive to produce and tough to draw the audience at first. And Fox hardly has the best reputation with famous examples like Firefly and also the Terminator series and 2014's unfairly canned Almost Human. So we'll have to wait and see.
