VIDEO: Ride Along 2 trailer - upping the action for comedy sequel
This sequel is definitely taking some major cues from Universal stable-made Fast and Furious - not only with that Tyrese cameo and the shiny cars at the start but also with the overall tone of the trailer.
This mostly looks like an action film now, complete with explosions, car chases and gunfights aplenty.
Now the final film will likely end up being a good deal more sedate but right now this is looking more like Bad Boys than a family friendly comedy, and maybe that’s not such a bad thing.
Action and comedy have worked brilliantly together for years and if the pyrotechnics are of decent quality they’ll act as a nice countepoint to the gags.
Without a doubt the films biggest asset is its leads.
Ice Cube has the straight guy role down to a fine art at this stage, as seen to great effect in 22 Jump Street and Kevin Hart is quickly becoming one of the most likeable comedy chaps around, easily matching with folks like Will Ferrell and Josh Gad.
There’s backup this time from the awesome Oliva Munn and some villain time for Benjamin Bratt. Plus Ken Jeong is here because he’s everywhere.
