Zac Efron could be taking to the beach for Baywatch
The first big name attached was none other than Dwayne The Rock Johnson, who is likely to spend a good deal of time shaming all other men by appearing shirtless. And now a second star is in negotiations to join - Bad Neighbours fellow Zac Efron.
The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter and it makes a lot of sense - especially as 27 year old Efron has been moving more and more into comedy roles in recent years. And he's been mostly entertaining, especially in fare like 2014's Bad Neighbours, which has a sequel on the boil.
The new Baywatch will be about a clean but lifeguard (that's Johnson) who is forced to team up with a young hot-head (hopefully Efron) to fight for their beach against some evil oil tycoons. It's set to be mosly a comedy with some sideswipes at the source material but it should also be trying to key into some nostalgia for the classic show. Unsuprisingly with that mix, the successful 21 Jump Street film series is being seen as an example of how Paramount wants Baywatch to work.
Seth Gordon is at the helm, he's most recently worked on Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief. Shooting could start in 2016 and given the subject matter we're going to assume a major summer release, so don't expect it before mid 2017.
