Super Meat Boy 2 could be on the cards
When discussing their work on upcoming mobile game Super Meat Boy Forever with Game Informer, Team Meat's Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes hinted that a sequel could be on the cards.
McMillen said, “There are aspects of Forever--kind of almost moves that Meat Boy did in Forever that we were prototyping that felt like could be better used in a sequel.”
“The future of Meat Boy is definitely up in the air, but a sequel is something that I wouldn't be opposed to doing even though I said, and we both said, that we wouldn't do it."
McMillen also added that he’s had a story written for some time.
The pair were more positive than they were back in 2010 after the release of Super Meat Boy. At that time, McMillen wrote a blog post titled "No SMB 2," and gave a list of reasons as to why a sequel wouldn’t make sense.
Team Meat has some projects to finish off before Super Meat Boy 2 will be worked on. Forever is yet to be released, and they will pick up work on Mewgenics again, which was put on hold while they completed Forever.
Super Meat Boy is also to be ported to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita this fall, and will be free at launch.
