VIDEO See Evie Frye stalk in Assassins Creed Syndicate

Assassin's Creed Syndicate will have plenty of new features as we've seen in every new entry in the long-running series but one new element has rightly been getting a lot of attention. For the first time in the series you'll be able to play as a female character in the single player part of the game. In this case, its Evie Frye, twin sister of Jacob Frye and an accomplished assassin in her own right.

Reports suggest you'll be able to switch to either player instantly while wandering around the open world but you'll have to choose one to use for specific story missions. That means you'll get different interactions and unique cut scenes for each character, which sounds like a great addition to the series.

On top of that, each twin will play differently - Jacob is more of a brawler while Evie has greater stealth capabilities. That's reflected in their personalities - Jacob becomes the leader of a massive street gang for example - and effects every moment of gameplay.

For an idea of how that works, check out this long gameplay session which sees Evie tackling a black box missions - unique challenges which give you a kill mission and a sandbox to make it happen.

It's great to see a different set of skills in play, and the rope launcher traversal should really shake up the slow movement speed which Assassin's Creed has sometimes been accused of. We're not sure how players are going to respond to the camoflaged element, hiding behind something would be just as effective, but its nice to have options. And knife throws are always cool.

This is just a tiny optional mission in the overall game, and it's already looking very tasty indeed.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is out on consoles and PC from the 23rd of October 2015.
