VIDEO Vin Diesel's The Last Witch Hunter looks insane

More than most in Hollywood, Vin Diesel is an actor who seems to have persisted mainly through force of will.

Less than gifted when it comes to performing, he's instead forged an entire career by playing people who sounds like they chew gravel for breakfast. He even took this to its logical endpoint by playing an actual sentient tree with a single line of dialogue as Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy.

You can't fault the 48 year olds ambition, especially the drive which helped to revitalise the flagging Fast and Furious franchise - he came on board as producer for 2009s Fast and Furious when the series started to turn itself around. So whenever he has a new project on the boil, it might just be the next big thing.

His latest is The Last Witch Hunter, and it has a crazily insane trailer.

He kills an enemy by running straight through him here, that's pretty good stuff.

Good points - the look of the world is pretty interesting and unique and immortal warriors are never boring on screen. The supporting cast has Michael Caine which is always a good thing, some Game of Thrones cred with the lovely Rose Leslie and Elijah Wood, who might be an actual immortal person. He's 34 years old. There's also director Breck Eisner who did the very watchable The Crazies back in 2010.

Bad points - the film has been in development for awhile (which isn't always a bad thing) and there's a chance that it could be another Diesel also-ran, like XxX, Riddick, Babylon A.D. etc.

Honestly, we've got a halfway good feeling about this, especially if the accent is decent and the world building as effective as it looks on screen. And the studio does too, with plans for a sequel already in the works.

The Last Witch Hunter is in cinemas on the 23rd of October 2015.
