VIDEO The Martian - behind the scenes of the mission
The Martian is a new film by Ridley Scott which is taking the very realistic approach to a Mission to Mars. We're even getting a series of videos which are focussing on the fictional crew, including finding out what it was like to spend 10 days in total isolation.
This viral stuff is always interesting, building up the reality of the world we're going to see and expanding on the universe outside of the two hours that the film will take to unspool. Scott has done it before with movies like Prometheus and it's an indication of the kind of work the director puts into every tiny aspect of his productions.
Matt Damon seems to be having fun as astronaut Mark Watney but that isn't going to last long as he soon becomes the first ever human to be stranded on Mars when the mission goes awry. With little chance of survival on the arid rock, he has to try to communicate with Earth while the remaining crew makes their slow way home.
The Martian is based on the 2011 novel by Andy Weir and also stars Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Michael Pena, Kata Mara, Sean Bean and Sebastian Stan.
