VIDEO: Lexus shows off its hoverboard in action
Many were sceptical after seeing preview videos of the device, but Lexus’ latest video has the proof that the technology works.
Before you get too excited, the hoverboard needs a metallic surface to work. The board relies on liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets to generate enough magnetism to ‘levitate’ above a metal track.
Lexus’ latest video uses a specially made magnetic track to give it that lift.
There is a learning curve when trying to ride it too. Pro skater Ross McGouran is tasked with getting to grips with the hoverboard and there’s quite a bit of trial and error, as you can see.
In one of Lexus’ videos, he says, “I started skating when I was about 7 or 8, and this literally feels like I’m starting all over again.”
“I forget what I’m doing; I’m actually floating on air.”
But once he finds the sweet spot, it looks very cool. Despite its impracticalities and requirements, we still want one.
