Frank Grillo back for The Purge 3
2013's The Purge could have been just another cut price horror flick from Blumhouse Productions (Paranormal Activity, Sinister) but it had a couple of things going for it - namely the presence of the ever-watchable Ethan Hawke and a great near future sci-fi premise. In this universe, for 12 hours on one night of the year, all crimes are legal, so the world goes mad.
That concept was expanded for 2014's sequel The Purge Anarchy with a small group of people trying to survive that bloody night. It also introduced the character of Sargeant, played by the great Frank Grillo. And now it seems he's coming back for more.
Variety is reporting that Grillo has just signed confirmed he's on board for The Purge 3. Negotiations were complicated by the stars committment to MMA TV drama Kingdom but with the dates worked out he's set to get shooting on the new film, which will be in cinemas in July 2016.
It has previously been reported that the third film will be called The Purge: Origins and will act as a prequel, showing the events of the first ever purge in 2017. We'll get a look at how the event came into being and the beginnings of the resistance which also appeared in Anarchy. And maybe we'll find out more about the events which led Grillo's character to become a badass killing machine.
