Sony has sold a staggering 25.3 million PlayStation 4s
Both consoles promised cutting edge graphics and amazing integrated online features, as well as a lineup of games which would make the most of those delicious tech specs but even as early as Christmas 2013 there was already a clear winner as the PS4 soared ahead in sales. And that's still the case today.
At the last count, Microsoft had sold in excess of 13 minute Xbox Ones around the world. But the PS4 had reached over 25 million units, leaving its rival in the dust. Over three million PS4's were sold in just the first quarter of 2015, as well as plenty of software for the new global console leader.
Putting that into context, the PS4 is around 15th on the all-time list of best-selling consoles, just ahead of the original Xbox but way behind the Nintendo 64, SNES, PSP, and Sega Genesis. The PS3 sold over 84 million to date and the PS2 is the most ubiquitous console around, with over 155 million units in circulation. But the PS2 was in circulation for a massive 13 years from its launch date in 2000 in Japan, so there's plenty of time left for the fledgling PS4 as it heads towards its second birthday in November 2015.
