Samsung aims to tackle Apple with price drops

Samsung's mobile division hasn't been having a great year, with sales down significantly from 2014. This comes in the wake of the release of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge - two well received phones with very high price points.

Samsung aims to tackle Apple with price drops

That's one issue the company is set to tackle, with news that they'll be officially dropping the price of the new S6 range in the coming months. We could easily see that kind of drop happening ahead of the release of Apple's newest handsets, which generally comes about in April.

Samsung also has more devices to come in 2015, with an August 13th event planned that we're assuming will see the unveiling of the Galaxy Note 5. There have also been rumours of a larger version of the Edge, a phone which has been generating great word of mouth, despite limited availability.

For right now, the price drop will be great news for consumers but not so positive for Samsung. As of the first quarter of 2015, they still had a significant global market-share lead over Apple and well ahead of outliers Lenovo and Huawei. But that figure is less useful if people aren't buying new handsets and giving the company their precious revenue streams, especially for premium handsets which have a typically high price point.

Stay tuned for news from the Samsung Unpacked event on the 13th of August 2015.
