Samsung announces new image sensor for thin smartphones

The image sensor is built with pixels measuring 1 micrometre, which is an industry first. This means a reduction in the module's overall height by 20% compared to current 1.12 micrometre-pixel based 16Mp sensor modules.

Samsung’s new image sensor uses its ISOCELL technology, which helps to increase light sensitivity. The sensor is capable of producing images of a comparable quality to previous sensors.
