A bonus mission in Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes seems to predict that Konami would remove the Kojima Productions logo from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

YouTube user timesplitter88 created a compilation video from Ground Zeroes' Déjà Vu mission. If players explore the map, they’ll find logos from previous Metal Gear games dotted around the place. Players can remove these logos by shining a light on them.

Interestingly, it’s only the games that Hideo Kojima himself directed that players can erase the logos for. This has led to the fan theory that Kojima knew what was going to happen and was warning fans in an obscure manner.

One of the more interesting lines in the video says, “You might be able to erase the markings, but the memories will never disappear.” Take that, Konami!

In March, Konami started removing Hideo Kojima's name and Kojima Productions' logo from the Metal Gear Solid website and from the game’s box art.

Of course, this could all just be a coincidence. But it’s an interesting one nonetheless.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released on September 1st on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
