VIDEO: Jennifer Lawrence stars in true-story Joy from the director of American Hustle
Joy is the story of Joy Mangano - a single mother of three young boys trying to get by in the tough world. The film is based on the life of the real Joy who had a life which seems primed for a big screen adaptation. Here's the trailer, which manages not to spoil every single story beat for a change.
You may recognise Mangano's name - she's the inventor of a number of products including the Miracle Mop and has regularly appeared on the various shopping networks selling her wares. This tale seems to deal with the earlier part of her life, which has been turned into a particularly dreamy-looking fiction starring the likes of Robert DeNiro and Bradley Cooper.
There are moments in the trailer which make it seem like this could almost be a musical and it all anchors around Lawrence, working with O. Russell once again after the success of American Hustle and her Oscar win for The Silver Linings Playbook. It's nice to see the 24 year old getting something to sink her teeth into, after spending so much time as Mystique and the crabby Katniss Everdeen.
The film also stars Edgar Ramirez, Elisabeth Rohm, Isabella Rossellini and Virginia Madsen.
