VIDEO Fantastic Four trailer amps up the angst
Chronicle director Josh Trank - who recently bowed out of helming a Star Wars spin-off - is bringing Fantastic Four back to the big screen and he's got a youthful and interesting cast (including Miles Teller and Michael B Jordan) as well as plenty of money to throw at the screen.
Here's the final trailer, ahead of the release in August.
It's nice to get some footage of Teller's Reed as a young kid and the film seems to have a real fascination with the positive power of scientific exploration. Naturally, that exploration has a negative side as well, which is embodied by Toby Kebbell's Doctor Doom - he does play a great villain.
Otherwise it's still a bit hard to get a sense of Fantastic Four, especially as a Marvel property operating outside the established mini-universes of the Avengers or the X-Men. It certainly seems to want to carve its own dark niche in the fiction and the production design is interesting and utilitarian. There's something fundamentally awkward about a few of the powers here, particularly Reed's stretching and the lack of an apparent sense of humour could lead it to being a bit dreary.
But we don't know what personality it has yet and in a world where we're used to playing connect the dots between multiple Marvel-verse entries it might be nice to see something which is that bit looser. Time will tell.
