The Hannibal TV show may be canclled in its current form but season 3 is still running on NBC which means we've got half a season left to enjoy. And a lot of that will deal with the character of Francis Dolarhyde as played by The Hobbit star Richard Armitage.
The character has a few different names in the books by Thomas Harris - dubbed The Tooth Fairy thanks to the way he treats his victims and also refers to a part of himself as The Great Red Dragon. That's named for a painting by famously batty English poet William Blake which Dolarhyde recreates on his back.
The etching into his skin forms much of the first half of this video which was shown off during Hannibal's Comic Con panel. It's pretty gorgeous and creepy stuff.
It looks like there's a lot left to tell in this series, and that the relationship between Lecter and Hugh Dancy's Will Graham is going to become even more twisted - it that is even possible. It must be a strange thing for Armitage to have his scenes debuting after the series has already been cancelled, especially as it seems like he's really sinking his teeth into the role. Pun very much intended.
The most recent news on Hannibal is that streaming services like Netflix and Amazon have passed on picking it up and showrunner Bryan Fuller is moving on to pastures new with HBO adaptation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods. There's a small chance the show could get wrapped up with a feature film in the future but we wouldn't expect to see more Hannibal for at least a couple of years. More's the pity.
Here's the full panel from Comic Con for Hannibal which is again a bit bittersweet as its likely the last time we'll see these folks together at such an event.
