Huawei makes first Irish acquisition

Chinese smartphone manufacturer and technology giant Huawei has bought the software defined networking (SDN) technology of Irish firm Amartus.

Huawei makes first Irish acquisition

This is Huawei’s first Irish acquisition and acts as a way for the company to expand its investment in research and development in Ireland and Europe.

Amartus’s senior team and product staff related to its SDN service will join Huawei. They will help increase Huawei’s competitiveness in the SDN market. Part of this strategy involves developing high quality cloud and network services.

The part of Amartus that remains unsold will continue to serve current customers.

Commenting on the deal, Amartus chief executive Michael Kearn said, “We are excited to be able to bring this innovative technology to Huawei at a time when the telecom’s industry is experiencing unprecedented change, driven by software.”

A figure for the deal has not been disclosed.
