Check out the improved graphics in the God of War 3 remaster
Let's get this straight - God of War 3 is a fantastically good-looking game. Released in 2010 it was ideally placed to make the most of the PlayStation 3 hardware - with the previous years of that hardware generation giving the developers plenty of time to learn how to get the most from the system. The scale of the world was jaw-dropping, the detail was incredible and the violence was... well it was pretty shocking actually.
So we were interested in seeing exactly what the remastered version of the game, set for release on PS4, would look like. Could it really be improved that much? Check out the video to see.
To be honest, it all seems a bit pointless. The main difference seems an increased level of sharpness overall, thanks to the bump to 1080p resolution. It's great to have some more detail in the image but it sometimes looks oversharpened and there's no denying that the underlying assets are still five years old. So the new focus makes it blindingly obvious that Kratos' face, for example, is actually quite simple and a little extra lighting doesn't do much to fix it.
The other addition is 60 frames per second gameplay which is a nice thing to be able to say about any action title. We'll have to wait and see if it holds up during the actual game but surely it won't present much of a challenge to the PS4 to basically play a PS3 game smoothly.
