HBO brings a blockbuster feel to every episode of Game of Thrones but the scale of season 5 episode Hardhome was truly epic

Everything about Game of Thrones is huge - from the sweep of that opening title sequence to the glorious CG dragons, the acres of incredible costumes and miles of naked flesh. But even on this scale the series somehow manages to create moments which are even more epic in scale.

One such sequences could be found in the season 5 episode Hardhome. It saw John Snow heading out into the wasteland beyond the wall to try to secure some help from the wildlings. And it didn't end up going particularly well, with the talks interrupted by a massive army of undead. Our heroes were suddenly flung into a battle for their very survival against an enemy which we've been hearing about for many years but have rarely seen on screen.
