NBA pro Matt Bonner blames new iPhone for injury

NBA star Matt Bonner is not a fan of the new, larger iPhone. He believes that using it caused him to develop tennis elbow, which affected his shooting percentages.

Bonner’s three-point percentage fell from 42.9% in 2013-14 to 36.5% in 2014-15. This was his lowest three-point shooting percentage since 2007-08.

"I hate to make excuses," Bonner told the Concord Monitor. "I was raised to never make excuses." And immediately after that statement, he made his excuse.

“When the new iPhone came out it was way bigger than the last one, and I think because I got that new phone it was a strain to use it, you have to stretch further to hit the buttons, and I honestly think that’s how I ended up developing it.”

Bonner also told the paper that a strength and conditioning coach with the San Antonio Spurs also suffered a similar injury playing a game on his phone.

Bonner is now a free agent, just waiting to be signed again. Apple is reportedly working on a smaller iPhone 6C, which may launch ahead of the NBA season; perhaps that handset’s size will be more to Bonner’s liking.
