Now that the Xperia Z3+, or the Xperia Z4 in Japan, is a known quantity, attention turns to the next Xperia device on the horizon.

Sony tipped to add fingerprint scanner to Xperia Z5

The Xperia Z5 could be a significant upgrade to its predecessor if the report from Technodify is accurate.

The report says that the Xperia Z5 will have the same OmniBalance design as its predecessor. However, it could be the first Sony smartphone to feature a fingerprint scanner.

It claims that the handset will feature the yet-to-be-released Snapdragon 820 processor and a massive 4GB RAM. It’s also rumoured to have a sizeable 4,500mAh battery.

Aside from that, it’s thought that the device will feature a 21MP Exmor RS IMX230-based CMOS sensor on the rear, with support for 4K video recording and HDR.

It’s expected that the Sony Xperia Z5 will be released in September and could make an appearance at this year’s IFA conference. Sony is also apparently planning to release a Compact and Ultra variant of the Xperia Z5.
