Konami wont even mention Kojima's name - watch this interview get closed down

Hideo Kojima is being phased out of Konami, even as Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain nears its release date, and its getting a bit heated

Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain is still coming out in September 2015 but it's been having a rough time of late, mainly because it seems like series creator and director Hideo Kojima is being removed from everything to do with this coveted title.

His name was removed from the website and game covers earlier this year and fans have been clamouring for an explanation ever since. But it seems like that's never going to happen as Konami isn't interested in even mentioning Kojima's name in interviews. Youtuber Angy Joe was chatting to Konami community manager Robert Peeler about The Phantom Pain in general but didn't get far with that particular question.

The full interview is below but it all kicks off around 7.00 with a very obvious edit.

It's a tough question to field and a difficult situation for the Konami rep. The focus which he's obviously been told to stick to is that they're looking forward to getting this game out and to seeing how players react to it. Konami wants to retain the Metal Gear franchise obviously and they're starting to hire new people to work on future games in this series. Kojima doesn't get a specific mention (we're willing to be that he did originally during that edit before the 7 minute mark) and there's a lot of edging around the subject.

At this point even if the game is a masterpiece there will be long time fans who are unhappy with how the situation has been handled, and that might mean they stay away from buying altogether. But if the game appeals to mainsteam players and sells really well, that isn't going to make any difference in the long run.

The Phantom Pain comes to consoles from the 1st of September 2015.
