The European Union has reached a preliminary deal to scrap roaming surcharges by June 2017.

To be even more specific, roaming surcharges will be abolished as of the 15th June, 2017. Latvia, which holds the EU presidency, made the announcement after 12 hours of talks with EU lawmakers.

Before they will be scrapped completely, roaming charges will be capped at €0.05 per megabyte for mobile data from 2016. Calls will be capped at €0.05 per minute, while SMS messages will be capped at €0.02.
