Disney bans selfie sticks from theme parks

The happiest place on earth may not live up to its name if you try to bring a selfie stick in from June 30th. Disney announced that selfie sticks will be banned from its theme parks, citing safety concerns.

The poles used to assist in snapping selfies won’t make it past bag checks at Disney World and Disneyland from June 30th. The ban rolls out to its parks in Paris and Hong Kong from July 1st.

Selfie sticks were previously banned on specific rides, including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. But after a roller coaster at the Disney California Adventure park had to be stopped mid-run and closed for an hour after a passenger pulled out a selfie stick, Disney is extending that ban to the full park.

Some might say that this ban is to ensure that passengers on rides have to buy memorabilia after a ride if they want visual proof. To be honest, we don’t fancy the idea of someone trying to keep a hold on their selfie stick and phone as they dangle upside down at speed in a rollercoaster.

If you want to use a selfie stick at a Disney theme park, you better book your ticket pronto.
