Irish drama My Name is Emily will launch the 2015 Galway Film Fleadh
The film is written and directed by Simon Fitzmaurice in his feature helming debut and tells the story of 16 year old Emily (Lynch) who celebrates her birthday without a letter from her estranged father. In typical road trip fashion, she teams up with an outsider fellow to find out what's happened to her dad.
Also starring Michael Smiley and George Webster, the film was written by Fitzmaurice after his diagnosis with Motor Neurone Disease, with the filmmaker typing out the script using just his eye movement. It's also how he directed the cast and crew through the six week shoot for the film in Ireland in 2014. The film received €50,000 in crowdfunding in 2013 and you can see a bit of behind the scenes here.
Simon said: “I'm deeply honoured that The Galway Film Fleadh has invited My Name is Emily to open the festival. Everyone involved with the making of this film has worked so hard and I cannot think of a better reward and a better place for our film's world premiere.”
My Name is Emily will open the Galway Film Fleadh on the 7th of July 2015, with the festival running until the 12th. The film will also release in cinemas later in 2015.
