Amy Winehouse doc will hit cinemas on anniversary of singer's death

Amy, the documentary about the late Amy Winehouse, will arrive in cinemas on July 3rd, 2015. Its release coincides with the fourth anniversary of Winehouse’s death.

The documentary, directed by Asif Kapadia and produced by James Gay-Rees, explores the hills and valleys of the British singer-songwriter’s short life and career. It will feature rare archival footage and previously unheard tracks.Amy Winehouse had a successful, but tragically short career. Her second and final studio album, "Back to Black," won her five Grammys in 2006. She battled alcohol and drug addiction, but died at the age of 27 in 2011.The documentary was previously previewed at Cannes 2013. It will appear at Cannes once again this year on May 16th, ahead of its theatrical release.Director Kapadia previously helmed the excellent Formula One documentary "Senna.” This earned the filmmaker two BAFTA awards.The trailer released for the documentary is quite chilling. “I don’t think I’m going to be at all famous. I don’t think I could handle it. I would probably go mad,” the late singer says in interview footage used in one clip.Amy will be released in cinemas on July 3rd, 2015.
