Marvel wants Selma director for a diverse superhero movie

According to The Wrap, Marvel wants DuVernay to direct one of its "diverse superhero movies.” This most likely points to her working on either Black Panther or Captain Marvel. The studio is apparently eager to hire an African-American filmmaker for the former, and a woman for the latter. DuVernay obviously ticks both of these boxes, but she clearly has bundles of talent behind the camera too.It seems most likely, according to The Wraps’ insider sources, that DuVernay will handle Black Panther. It’s set to star Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, the prince of Wakanda who must take over his father’s throne and avenge his death. Black Panther is expected to be released in the summer of 2018.In the meantime, DuVernay is developing a TV series for Oprah Winfrey‘s OWN network based on the book “Queen Sugar.” She recently wrapped CBS’ civil rights drama pilot “For Justice,” and she has also set up an untitled Hurricane Katrina movie at Participant Media.
